It’s not the most shocking part of this book, not by far, but maybe the most surprising revelation has been the Imperial German Army’s absolute refusal to consider sustainment logistics. They were apparently willing to elevate mobilization and railroad logistics to the highest prestige, and then left actual provisioning of the army on the front lines to “idk, steal from the locals I guess”.
