Ok, it’s getting better. I am less annoyed by Portia’s voice but I still say that it’s inauthentic. Maybe it’s the author’s intent to skim over the pains and danger of racism the early 1900. She makes it seem like Portia isn’t impacted at all by anything just mentions colorism, how Black men were beat down by racism and the high maternal death rate. this is however historical fiction….

Boring. And Portia Washington’s voice is unrealistic but I don’t expect a white author, no matter how talented, to be able to not only capture the voice of Booker T Washington’s daughter but have it differ from Pres. Roosevelt’s daughter, Alice.
