reads as self-important; like the author is the only one who understands that war is bad, and he’s humbling himself to inform the reader of this burdensome knowledge. somehow making it all (war, atrocities, the death of his father) about himself along the way. also the sentence “Nothing could have prepared me for what was to happen next.” appears in the text and isn’t that a hard no in writing 101 lmao
