Just finished “The Dome” where entire cities are enclosed under glass domes. One of the changes is that nature, as the residents know it, is somewhat abolished. Interiority is matryoshkan, an ever-present, inescapable nesting of interior spaces inside each other. Every object is miniaturized by the vastness of the Dome. Millhauser writes, “The Rockies are a row of stones in a third-grade diorama.”
