Without paying attention to the lots of time between reading this book — I enjoy the theatrics of a character who walks and thinks he’s this untethered person who is simply existing, but wants his life to mean something, even if it means embracing martyrdom.

While the contents can be overly detailed, verbose, and eye-rollingly liberal, there is much beauty in the story it’s trying to tell.

I feel a tender disposition to Akbar’s words and how creative he is. There is an ease into the depth of Cyrus' character, but a painful resignation to finding meaning in one’s death or life. Cyrus is an authentic individual with a veil of uncertain wisdom; I’ve been really enjoying myself reading this novel!

Though hyper intellectual, its prose is magnetic and authentic to a vulnerable degree. I have a hard time approaching novels with such cultured tones, whether it’s in throws of faith and arts, the whole nine. The narration of a man’s turmoil and endeavors through the eyes of an Iranian American man is done with vigor and violent solace. I’m enjoying this novel thus far, and it’s in the race for top five.
