It's a bit like Bliss set in the same world as Crystal Singer. The opening chapter where the MC slings a carisak over his shoulder and grits his teeth against the subsonic whine of the machinery had me experiencing serious deja vu. Also "[keying] in an order for a protein-heavy meal" (loc 1957), although I'm pretty sure McCaffrey had them 'dialling' instead of keying.
