The novel at this point has focused on the widened scope of the investigation. Det. Tom Jenson has determined through interviews with parties from the past that the unfit household that spawned what appears to be an eleven year old psychopath and serial killer was worse than an alcoholic mother doing tricks out of her house to a drug ring.and pedophile cell protected by powerful people.

The narrative focuses on a nervous Danny Hernandez who tracks his old friend Jerry to inform him of the unnamed police detective who threated him at his job to stop talking with Homicide Detective Tom Jensen about the case. Tom had jostled Jerry's memory and he recalled that he and Tom were good buddies in high school. They went out for drinks and Danny tells Jenson about Raul's murder threat, and boasts of murder.

Tne convicted murderer of 11 year old Raul Velasquez had his conviction overturned after serving over two decades on Death Row. The DA was denied on his motion to not have the prisoner released. The case was a vicious abduction, rape, and murder of a young sadistic sociopath. The man accused now has a successful and affluent sister to fund his likely retrial.
First quarter laying groundwork for the cold case.
