I learned that when Tara was 15, Shawn came back to visit, gained a girlfriend whom he was abusive to mentally and physically, and then he started to become abusive to Tara as "one night he came home late and in a strange mood" and grabed tara by her hair pinning her down (Tara 109).

the ruby ridge insident didn't make much sence to me, it was confusing to read. i think she made it this way becayse at the time she didn't understand and as a storyteller she wants to makeit confusing for us to understand her thinking then.

In the book educated tara observes "next to [her], Vennssa was scibling steadily. Of course she was. she belonged here" as it was her first time being in a university (tara 171) .

I find myself understanding the setting and/or conflict most of the time though sometimes it is hard to understand what is going in with who. maybe the author wrote it like this so it could be easier for the audience to understand what is going on and because it comes from a person's point of view.
