Second branch of the Mabinogi: a confusingly beautiful story about betrayal, the Otherworld and the wonders of the cauldron. Kings as large as mountainous sea gods, lying half brothers and the innocent child. Also, another example of women (Branwen) being punished for the ills of man. And more horses!! Can’t wait for the third branch!!

First Branch: the Otherworld, love, motherhood, deceit, the rising of heroes, magic, the monstrous and horses are common themes in this first part. Pyderi’s kidnapping and the shame of Rhiannon is the main theme in the latter part of the story aswell as Pyll’s instant reaction to first seeing Rhiannon on her pale mare. Arawn as a magician/supernatural is also important and the brotherly bond the two nobles form
