Finally, the book is starting to describe some adventure and the story is starting to unfold, at the beginning of Part 2 (there are five parts total).

The included maps help track the ship’s journey—I’m glad the author included these. I’m starting to realize just how vast the earth’s oceans are.

There are more names being introduced; I’m hoping the author will slow down with this. There are some good descriptions of battle drills, and also disease breaking out, where the sick were stored below deck (“under the weather“). The author also describes burial at sea. This is going to be a slow read. It has enough description of adventure that I should be able to work my way through it.

There are a lot of names being introduced; it’s probably up to 40 at this point. I stopped tracking them after more than a dozen. Hopefully as the book goes on certain people will become central to the story. The book does start to give you some sense of life on a ship in the 1800s.

Mildly interesting, it reads like a documentary. There are lots of names being introduced; I always find it hard when books start like this. It’s difficult to know who is an important person or character that will be central to the story.
