I agree and disagree with various of the author’s characters’ expressed opinions of the “uptime” psychiatric profession (to which I do not belong) but as to BPD, yes, like “Oppositional Defiant” I suspect it’s less scientifically descriptive, more useful for questionable reasons

“dumb” means mute, I believe, in this context, although that seems clearly wrong too (neigh, it certainly is…)
