To be honest, I am figuring out how to read a book of poems. Do you pause after each one? Reread them, or wait to reread after each thematic chapter? I’m highlighting and annotating egregiously in a way that would be shocking for prose 😆

Starting to get a sense of the type of poetry I gravitate toward: either rhyme or a rhythmic quality, humor, prose poems, and weird line breaks. But not all at once 😉

The collection on beauty wasn’t as memorable as I’d hoped. Just Amy Lowell as multilayered yet succinct and authentic. But a great subject! Fashion and beauty standards are a subject of much stress for women in particular

This chapter has some of my favorite writers so far! Sharp, purposeful, and yet still lyrical. I wonder what I would wrote about the intersections of work, dreams, and art

Reading (more) about love, I prefer the ironic writers. After five chapters on various aspects of love, only one repeated favored poet, e.e. cummings. On work, poems are in fact commentary on social justice. Which rings true to prolific female socialist (prose) writers of the early 1900s Kollontai & Luxemburg #SocialistPrincesses
