Astonishing Tales #8 Back up story
I hadn’t read this story before. It was cool to see concepts that were created and hinted at so many years earlier were given new life by a different writer and expanded on.
The wordiness tho... I don't miss that!
It’s funny how Doom’s look has not changed much at all.

Included was a semi-interview, which basically retold the whole story of the GN.
Something interesting to note is that the GN took years to publish and Stern was waiting for it to fit into continuity but that didn’t end up happening.
Then there were various pin-ups in different art styles, all from Marvel Fanfare. There are some I liked more than others but I liked the colouring for all of them.

I’ll be honest… I didn’t read the Sub-Mariner stories.
They weren’t included for the story anyway. They were included for the art!
Marvel Fanfire #43 looked like some sort of pirate story and seeing Namor semi-dressed as one was pretty funny.
But that Pirate Queen’s outfit was cool!
I liked the pin-up of Namor too.

Doctor Strange V2 #57 -
Skimmed this.
It was included because there was a (single!) page where Doom considered being Strange's disciple, even tho the Sorcerer wasn't looking for one...
It’s funny it’s a Volume 2 (1974-1987) issue. I basically skipped that entire era of Doctor Strange... for some reason (probably and error or something with my lists...)

I really enjoyed how this took Doom from the cliché, power hungry B-villain and gave him depth and humanity.
I also really liked how this expanded upon the mystic arts mainly featured in Doctor Strange comics.
It was funny how many mages were bitter at Strange because he hadn't 'earned' his title.
The end was a little soap opera-esk. But I felt what it was trying to convey.

I was surprised to learn this is not just the Marvel Graphic Novel but it also contains a few more Doom stories AND a Namor story (sounds random, I know).
