How is this book getting so much praise for the writing?

<spoiler> I left off where the characters are climbing/hiking up a snowy mountain, so snowy they had to ditch the car. The author puts so much detail into how treacherous this mountain is… they plop down and take a break then…. they run around and have a snowball fight??? Make it make sense? <\spoiler></spoiler>
