i like how much time we spend at netherfield, and how much lizzy confides in jane🥺 austen’s humor is so witty and i love how atypical of a protagonist lizzy is for her time. i love her spunk, i love her always challenging darcy, i love her love of walking.

mr wickham feels so much more sinister here bc he directly mentions georgiana. weirdo. mary as ever deserving better—not lizzy the one to suggest she stop playing😭 also think it’s interesting how lizzy surmises the engagement to mr collins much earlier but isn’t too concerned about it.

- “he began to feel the danger of paying elizabeth too much attention.”
- “she attracted him more than he liked”
- “for in darcy’s breast there was a tolerable powerful feeling towards her.”
- “his attention was invariably fixed by her”

i really love chapter 5! the bennets and lucases meeting just to talk shit and have tea about the ball is soooo needed. you can really see how good of a friend charlotte is. and mary’s observation about pride vs vanity encapsulates the themes so well. “a person may be proud without being vain. pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”

so fun to read aloud. might try to find an audiobook
- bingley having more sisters @ the ball—thought that was so interesting cuz it’s just him, his sister, and darcy in the film. in the novel bingley seems a lot more sociable bc of this bigger party.
- mrs. B HAAAATINGGG darcy’s ass LMAO
- mr. B not attending the first ball and hearing all the secondhand tea is also funny

finally decided to pick this up after owning a copy for 5+ years and buying a new copy at waterstones bc it looked pretty LOL. as a big fan of the 2005 version, i love seeing the differences from the adaptation and the original text. mr. bennett truly has idgaf energy, and i love seeing austen’s humor shine through her prose (mr. B already visiting Bingley, “now kitty, you may cough as much as you choose”)
