Before rereading this, I thought it was a book I hated in high school, but now I think I must’ve been thinking of something else. This is still a rough book, with precious few characters to feel fondly about. And I am a bit mystified by how the Brontë sisters can have thought The Tenant of Wildfell Hall so scandalous when they were writing things like this. But I don’t hate it.
