Poverty, pain and psalms - from the daily diaries and the life of a missionary (and the affect on their health and families) the book moves (albeit too briefly) to the Boer War and the LCM's near overwhelming work with troops at Woolwich.

Lots of first hand accounts from victorian LCM missionaries on poverty and ministering to the poor and working classes. They also provided support with suicides, accidents and disasters.

This has started very well as teh authors provide the story on how the London City Mission was formed and why. They raised an astonishing amount of money at their first meeting - enough to fund 20 missionaries for London double the original number expected. News spread and donations far wand wide came in, including the King and Queen of Sweden. Great read let's hope it continues.
