I do not find Schreiner’s outline convincing, especially given his own commentary. How is the focus of the outline on the warnings, but the focus on the commentary is on the eschatological fulfillment of the past age in Jesus. Something is not lining up for me here.

It’s interesting to me that Schreiner rightly observes the continued contrasts of earthly and heavenly realms but thinks that the main focus of the book is the warnings.

I am surprised that a covenantal Baptist like Schreiner is so un-covenantal in his reading of Hebrews 1-7. In my reading, the entire thrust of the discussion is in how Jesus is the center of a new covenant. I don’t think it’s overstating to say that the Jesus/Covenant relationship is the primary theme of the book. Schreiner sparsely discusses the covenant until chapter 8, which is just weird to me.

I’m worried I’m reading this too fast. An excellent commentary so far. A perfect balance between scholarly and accessible for intermediate-early advanced study. He’s not shying away from discussion of Greek, but he’s not examining every word.
