I don't want to be too hard on the romantasy, but Gideon really needs to come to terms with the fact that personal romantic betrayal is neither morally equivalent to nor justification for handing a romantic partner over for public execution. Like, I want these crazy kids to work out, but I know I would personally have a hard time keeping the passion alive for a guy who is ideologically committed to genocide.
