I love the premise of chapter 14, “There the Ruler Himself is the indispensable figure. For this is God’s mediatorial government, and hence there must be a personal ruler—not merely an organization to stand between God and men.” This is the essence of Romans 8. The law was not intended to fulfill what was to be fulfilled by the Person, Jesus Christ.

Jesus in His home synagogue read from Isaiah 61, found within Isa 40–66 which shows the majestic splendor of the Messianic Kingdom. The prophetic utterances of Gabriel, Mary, Zacharias, Simeon, and Anna “represent ideas which are so firmly embedded in the doctrine of the Kingdom of the OT prophecy that no exposition can be valid which leaves out the historic nation of Israel and its historic city” (see pp. 281–283).

McClain points out something of great significance, “this Jewish problem…is related vitally to the political problems of the world.” For they were appointed by God to be the means of national blessing of all the families in the world (Gen 12:3). “Therefore, until Israel is where he ought to be, both religiously and politically, there can be no thorough and permanent solution of the international problems." p. 231
