Giving up on this. Very disappointed at the incredibly self-indulgent prose and super-slow exposition. Hard to even feign interest in the main (only) characters.

Gave up: I found nothing that interested me in this book. The main characters were cliches, or had become cliches since Styron wrote this. Just didn't seem worth reading any longer.
