It seems to me that a lot of people have a God shaped hole in their chests. And if they don't have a God to put there, they are vulnerable to other mind viruses. A tried and tested God might be better than whatever we can make up in one generation of frantic searching.
Better yet might be to realise that there are no adults in the room. Daddy is not coming home to set it all straight.
