I'm still not sure I really Get 'Yukon', but I've read enough fairytales since my last attempt to at least recognise the 'animal bridegroom' tropes it's subverting. Our Heroine starts the story with a human husband; leaves him on a whim to live with a bear; is totally absent for the destruction of her husband's house; and then gives birth to a baby that flies away without her in the shape of a bird.

'He wrote back that of course he'd rescue me in a minute himself if he thought anything were really wrong or if there were any real danger, but he wants me to learn to solve my own problems, to learn to be more objective and less emotional about my situation and, most of all, to stop exaggerating. He thinks it would be bad for my personal growth if he came to my rescue now.'

The back half of this thing is pretty much Joy In Our Cause Pt. II: the standard of writing is better, and the prose more mature, but they're still too flimsy and avant garde for my taste.

'I missed the night side and landed, two o' clock, on the opposite continent right in my own backyard. Or so he says. / "Me, husband." Pointing to himself. "Uh, uh." / "What am I doing crash-landed here in my own backyard?" I ask, but he doesn't understand[.]/ Under the circumstances I feel vaguely as if I had fallen off a ladder while painting the upstairs window sills, but that can't be.'
