“‘prefer that version of the world,’ i say, smiling up at him. his arms ring my waist, his nose scraping along mine.
‘you do?’
i nod, the movement gliding our lips briefly across each other.
‘it’s yours,’ he offer.
i laugh. ‘oh? i can have the world?’
‘mine,’ he says, ‘yeah. you can have mine.’”

goodbye. i’m melting.

“‘Cecil! hi!’ i rise to hug him on instinct, despite having absolutely never hugged this man before. he takes it in stride, hugs me back like we’re the oldest friends in the world.”

this made me cry. having lost both my grandpas and never truly getting to interact with them like this, cecil feels like he’s filling this void in my heart.

“…you feel like you have to keep accomplishing instead of just creating. it affirms the idea that the value in what you do is how people react to it, and not just in the making of it. i’ve written stuff i’m really proud of that hardly anyone read. i’ve written stuff i’m proud of that no one liked. that doesn’t mean it didn’t deserve to be written.”
