This is a beautifully woven story of childhood & of relationships, of dreams & stories. I never thought of a story being centered around comic conventions but it works. Some chapters are confusing with snippets of stories past and present, of fiction and reality, but they work together to complete the world. Proehl also has a way of capturing the human experience and putting words to gestures & subconscious thoughts.

Just finished a flashback chapter with Val. These are slow and confusing and not my favorite. Thankfully redeemed by a touching, soft, and thoughtful chapter between Gail and Alex. These chapters are where the book shines best.
