the most unrealistic aspect of this book is that people are not surprised enough when they figure out (or start to suspect) who fitzroy is.

that being said, i am totally endeared by fitzroy’s attention to beauty! it makes for a delightful read when you have a narrator who tells you about his clothes and belongings, his surroundings, and the people he meets in a way that emphasizes the beauty of the world.

i’m loving the start of fitzroy’s adventure; i think he would make a great travel companion. there’s something so lovely about following a man as he becomes himself—even at his age, flaws and all—after a lifetime of living in various forms of isolation. i envy his confidence and curiosity!

he’s growing on me, it has to be said!

did not expect allusions to king midas and jack and the beanstalk but here we are

fitzroy is an agent of chaos but i love his whimsy… i look forward to getting to know him!
