In The Edge of Anything, I don't understand the character Kayla. She is supposed to be Sage's best friend, but she never knows how to help her, especially after the heartbreaking diagnosis. After the diagnosis, they fight almost every time they talk. Kayla and Sage's relationship was entirely built on volleyball, and now that that's gone, there is nothing to hold it together.

In The Edge of Anything, I don't enjoy the way Nora Shalaway-Carpenter writes. I think it's a bit childish and the plot points are all predictable. I believe the reason she wrote it this way is to talk about hard things, but in a more "family friendly" way.

In The Edge of Anything, Sage tries to bring Len to her lunch table to eat with her friends. Unfortunately for Len, it's an unspoken rule to not interact with her because she's "weird". This is implied when Ella says "I thought I knew everyone" when Len says they share a class. Ella does know about Len, she just pretends not to. This obviously affects Len in a negative way because she knows Ella is lying.
