end of ch 7. Wrather is amiable but narrator does not tell him he is a scientist, but he is just a writer looking for amusing stories (from Dean). Wrather does take the game a bit too fast. The ruse is they want to know about the Greek trojans, while plying him with drinks then Tokay. When he starts to cross over, narrator says "Good dog" ha! Wag was his dog name. Collars are risky while digging.

end of ch 11. Wag's friend's name was Lion-hunter because he was always ready to fight a lion. Wag went by the name Wag, but he thought of himself as Moon-chaser. They chase a hare and go much further, out of bounds. But return safely even though they were lost, they just knew the way home. When man shares the secret of fire with dog, man and dog will be equal, says Wag. Narrator is not getting the scientific info.

end of ch 10 "Hunting and dog-fighting should be one's main pursuits, as guarding a duty, and eating a pastime." He tells of a strange dog that when he looked in his eyes, he could tell he had rabies. Then tells of a hunt and how he was shut up in the house while it went on, to his great dismay.

end of ch 9. Wrather breaks the spell by saying, "You must have been the hell of a dog." Wrather apologized for having "undogged the Dean" and thus put the Dean off him for future dinners. They cook up a scheme to entice the Dean by trying to reform Wrather (Christian duty), to drink sensibly, like the Dean does, drink for drink, not to excess.

end of ch 7. Narrator says Wrather has taken a liking to Dean, whereas he remains objective, only looking for the proofs of transmigration. "It's a grand life, a dog's life" says Dean. Wag makes a new acquaintance. The hunt rabbit, then badger, then taunted a pig, rolled in "something nice," killed a hen for the fun of it. Hunted the moon.

end of ch 6. Narrator is doing "scientific investigations" for the European on matters that are well-known as facts to the Asian. Found Wrather as a good companion to help narrator draw the Dean out more. Because Wrather "never trust a teetotaler."

end of ch 4 "in vino veritas" it's getting to be a list of the things that the intoxicated Dean (dog) does not like: rabbits, foxes, the moon, and now pigs and cats who go up trees.

end of Ch2. What an absolute DELIGHT. Of course I see Sam Neil in my mind, but it is still a delightful delight!
