I'm in Auckland now, any tips on what to see? Had a marvellous time in Rotorua looking at geysers and Maori culture. One perfectly normal village, Ohinemutu, was like reading magical realism. There were cracks in the road, in the public toilet, in the church drive just about everywhere where steam came up and sometimes bubbling water from the geothermal activity below. But now we're in the city. What is there to do?

The aquarium is great! (it was in 1985; I suspect it is better now).

Mark wrote: "Enjoy NZ Petra, it's a beautiful country - greetings from over the ditch in OZ!"I really enjoyed my short time in Oz - Melbourne and Sydney. NZ is a fabulously beautiful country, I loved it. In Fiji now, at a fancy resort, I haven't been to a resort in decades, had forgotten the people basting themselves around a pool all day long, still it's very beautiful and the Pacific is sparkly blue. Don't know what to do in Fiji though so probably going to Tonga soon. Or Hawaii.

I lost my medication, think it fell out on the plane yesterday. I had a change of clothes in my hand luggage and so every night I wash out my smalls We're in a high rise hotel in Hawaii right now so I put my undies outside to dry overnight. They blew away, they are on the top of a frangipani tree in the garden of the house in front.... I can't get on top of things at all, even if my panties can.
I’m sorry to hear that things are going a bit crazy for you, Petra! I’m so glad that you’re feeling better.

I'm home again and after 4 months travelling my garden is either dead or overcome with vines. I am feeling better, thank you. I've had two years of intense depression actually brought on by trying to support a GR friend through hers. I sort of caught it. Weird that.
Petra, I'm glad that you're feeling better these days. You've been missed on this website. I had to giggle at the sight of your undies hanging at the top of the frangipani tree in Hawaii.:)

Tbh I can't get rid of this stress and depression. Right now I've had a letter I don't know how to answer, a message I don't want to answer and a letter I have to write and I'm too stressed to do it all and have eczema everywhere including my eyebrows. I just can't cope with communication at all these days.

Of course you are remembered here, Petra. You have an impressive following on GR, and many of them care about you. I wish you well, and I hope that you have nearby personal friends for support during this time.
Petra, I fully agree with Carol's comment above this one. You have a large following here on GR and for one, I am delighted to see your pretty face, red hair (+cigar), avatar appearing again on reviews and comments!

Of course, you have not been forgotten and will not be forgotten. I hope that someday you're. up for doing more here but most I know (including myself) are doing less here than we did years ago. Take care.

Very happy to see you posting here. Enjoy your travels! Sorry I can't recommend anything in Aukland.

The Maritime Museum was the best museum in the world for boats I've ever been to. As a blue-water sailor I was really interested in Maori navigation and boat-building as much as the America's Cup boats, so we went two days running.
