Jonny Tremain is a silversmith for the Laphams. He was trying to make a sculpture of a winged woman. While making it on Sabbath Day, he burnt his hand. The Laphams did not want to bring him to a doctor because they were breaking Sabbath Day. Because of his burnt hand, he can no longer work.
