I don't understand why people like Laurel or Susannah? Laurel basically abandons her kids, I get Susannah is sick but she has a husband and the world didn't stop for everyone. Be a bloody parent. Susannah is manipulating everyone to be who and with who she thinks they should be with no considerations that these are kids who should be figuring out who they are & not her freaking dolls to play with.

I may despise some of these characters but Han is a fantastic engrossing author i can't stop reading. I just wish this was a better story with less manipulative characters.

I maybe heartless but the fact that Belly and her mom have no existence outside of Susannah and her boys (literally none) isn't romantic. It is a bad cult and Sussanah's the leader. That her mom thought it was fine for her daughter to not do anything all winter but long for the few brief months at a summer house that doesn't belong to them is insane.
