There is zero nuance to these books. The “good” guy is obviously bad, the “bad” guy is secretly noble and heroic. It’s like being hit over the head with old tropes. The “quips” that are supposed to make the MC look smart are cringey and stupid. This sold millions of copies? This is the dumbing down of America.
