I'm really struggling with getting into this. I think it's the writing style combined with the new world and I hope it will get better as I get used to everything! I really want to like this one!

Seems like I finally got into it!

Eslingen took the paper, scanning the scrivener's tidy, impersonal hand, and Monteia's spiky scrawl at the base. Rathe hadn't signed it, and he was momentarily disappointed...

😂 Loving these little hints!

This really is a book that needs to be read physically to fully apprecitate it, I think. It's somewhat a slow read and reading it on my phone is just not cutting it. Anyway, I'm really enjoying myself, but the chapters are ridiculously long!

The 'Serry was as crowded as ever, a good dozen children chasing each other barefoot through the beaten dust while their mothers gossiped in the dooryard of the single tavern and the gargoyles clustered on the low roofs, shrieking at each other.

Loving the imagery in this one, also seems like I finally got into it!

Leah Yeah I think it is pretty old school writing style, but I think it takes a minute but I remember getting into the plot.

I noticed in the prologue that she actually does the writing thing that a lot of people hate but I usually love - almost skipping who she stays close to as the pov character. It took me a bit to realise who the pov character even was. And I have to say that righ at the beginning it was confusing even though I would have liked it later on. And then just as I got settled, we get to the main character(s?) in the first chapter so I have to do the whole adjusting thing again. Now that I think about it, I guess I don't like it when prologue is told by a different character? Narratively it makes a lot of sense and I like it by that pov, but when it comes to getting into the book? It does hinder me a lot.
