This book is vaguely depressing even with its humour so I only read it in the mornings when there’s still some hope in the day.

The chapter I liked so much yesterday is starting to drag a bit. I have to remind myself that it is a translation and Indian storytelling is not as linear, sharp or focussed as western narratives often are.

Picking up this book again. I had to put it away because I was going through ‘The Vegetarian’ and too many madwomen tropes were going to me. But this book is delightful. Chandipatti may turn me into a dog person after all.

Is it getting better, or more mundane and boring? I'm tracking your reading review to keep or remove this one from my own reading list :)

@Shree It’s a good book. And like any good food, it needs to be consumed in the right way. Too many books today are written to cater to Instagram audiences, prone to snap decisions rather than the careful pondering that a book can offer. It has a humorous melancholia which fits right into my morning and doesn’t burden me either by demanding too much attention or shocking me or weighing me down. The multiple short story collections on my Currently Reading list are for when I’m commuting. Each of them burdens me otherwise, read together.
Well summed up. I was planning on shelving it after your initial review. I love a mix of melancholy and sprinkles of humor to add spice to a story.
@Shree You might like this then. Also, how about discussing this over chai? We are long overdue a catch-up, I think.
