I am unsure whether I want to follow Dummett's distinction between a translation manual and a "modest" theory of meaning and in "What is a theory of meaning? (I)" much hinges on that. There must be something that I don't quite understand yet. But realising my own confusion is already a personal progress for me.

This didn't turn out to be true for the entirety of the essay. Dummett's position in Origins was much stronger and in Truth and Meaning he goes deeper into Frege's theory of force in light of Frege's belief that truth is indefinable and also somewhat unanalysable.
Still a very short essay, and I obviously need to read all of Dummett
