Have read through Chapter 8 and the dismantling of gains by blacks from Civil War through Reconstruction. The compromise by whites lead of a change from the Republican Party in the South to the Democratic Party and the beginning of "states rights" in dealing with its black citizens. Rutherford B Hayes was elected President due to this compromise. The Jim Crow era is about to begin.
