Finished Part 6.
The point is seeming clearer and clearer to me over time, and I feel as though I don't really agree with it, yet again because of modern perspective. The beauty of the novel itself hasn't enchanted me much either, but I'll probably still speak favorably of it later.

I think one of the biggest things I'm taking away from this book is "damn, I'm glad we have a more equitable system of divorce in the modern day"

Finished Part 4.
I feel like I keep waiting for a metaphorical boot to drop and the point of the story to be made clearer, but I think that's probably from reading different kinds of novels. The drama at this particular part of the book makes me glad divorce agreements in the modern day and age aren't this bad.

Finished Part 3. It's weird how easily I can connect and get lost in Tolstoy's prose when it's about things I don't have experience with in a time I have little concept of. The one thing I've noticed about both Tolstoy and Dostoevsky is that they both feel bizarrely contemporary in their style.

Getting deeper into the main thrust of the story now, I find myself simultaneously bored and infatuated. It's hard to really describe--I'll sit down with it and suddenly become engrossed for like 30-50 pages, and then almost immediately become entirely disinterested, and at other times, I feel like trying to get into the details of Russian aristocratic society is like pulling teeth.

I both like and dislike it. A lot of the central drama is very drab and uninteresting, but Tolstoy has a way of writing uninteresting scenes in prose that leaves you craving more.
Much like Dostoevsky, I have a feeling I'm going to disagree with his views on society as presented here. It seems there's a clear caricature of a "modern man" which sucks and is notably leftist and godless, which is kinda lame.
