I’m usually not one for this sort of books but Chamberlain’s eye for the greater picture beyond his main character makes for an insightful walk through the era. Also Milan, despite its importance is less well documented than not only Venice, Rome and Florence but also Genoa and Naples. So this is proving an interesting new look at a familiar subject. And of course the positively Jacobean intrigues are delicious.
