I'm only a little bit in and I'm having a really hard time figuring out the locations and time periods here. I generally love POV changes, flashbacks, etc. but I can't tell how old he is or where he is. :-(

I have a really hard time getting pieces of everything (books, movies) glued together in the beginning. It's probably the same reason why I never see plot twists coming.
