Ch. 3- Time goals can be viewed as either a ceiling or something to reach for. Obviously some times are far beyond physical limits, but the optimal goal is something just within reach to push the athlete as far as they can go.

Ch. 1- Endurance performance is not just about a physical limit (because we can never truly reach it) but a combination of physical limits and how close our brain will let us get to that limit. A variety of coping skills can be used to push closer and closer to that limit, even when the brain determines that the perceived effort you have reached is too far.
