Main character is giving very blank slate, unseasoned chicken breast, uninteresting and a void of nothing-burger that main characters have (that i hate) so you can project yourself onto them. Manic-pixie-dream-Jules is giving Pinkie Pie and 13 years old. It feels wrong knowing that she will be a love interest later on. Do not like, but will keep reading.

You can also tell when an author wrote a mediocre story by the “speaks in another language sometimes just to drill into your head that they’re special and different and a manic pixie dream person who will impulsively take the main character under their wing and somehow drastically change their life” character.

You can tell when an author has written a mediocre story when all they do is describe, describe, describe. I’m very whelmed.
