so i'm listening to this on audiobook, I think it helps me appreciate the shallowness and pretentiousness of it a lot more
I can tell it's going to be a story about characters over plot (of which I always gravitate more toward anyway) so i'm sticking with it -- sometimes a little bit of shallow pretentiousness is ok

idk what's going on with contemporary fiction of young(ish)-adults "figuring stuff out" while also living in a giant metropolitan city and throwing every social cliche - it's very hard to do. Mellors doesn't exactly succeed but it isn't terrible
