Too many relatable characters and thought patterns. Terrible pick for someone juggling between manic depression occasionally turning into nihilism and yearning for lost close bonds. Russia really didn't change much, it's still a hell for intelligent people with romantic souls striving for authenticity. Status defines everything, Tolstoy as an expert on the topic became a moral icon, despite not hiding his crimes...

Also, Karenina is quite stupid. I never understood those romantic people stuck in lukewarm marriages and not being self - aware enough to see how little care they actually have for their significant others. Is it the solid foundation alone that attracted you to staying in a marriage? Miss most charming could clearly do better than that robotic avoidant psychopath since everyone around seems to love her even in Balzac age. All too familliar yet again...
