Oh this is a fascinating look at the Green Book, also the factors that made it necessary, and the anecdotal stories of people who used it. Previously (and maybe still) they hung a chauffeur's cap to avoid violence from yt people who would have been bitter that a Black person owned a car, probably better than his own.

Oh yes, this is so good! The chapters are laid out chronologically, focusing each chapter on a different time period and aspect of travel. I just finished the chapter about vacation, how the 1952-53 editions encouraged Black people to travel abroad and gave them the knowledge and confidence to do so. Learning about these establishments is so cool.
