The waves crashing against the rocky coast is such an important trope for North Korea, Myers calls attention to that in the meeting with Bill Clinton and Jong-Il, where a photo of just that is the backdrop of the meeting. Symbolizing ultimately that the waves of their adversaries cannot reach the motherland. (95). The imagery is also prevalent in lots of North Korean art as well.
