Ch1) introduces the daily routine of people in region at the time it was written. It’s very interesting. I feel like sad knowing that families were separated and kids were sent to som sort of boarding schools? I never knew this history. It’s also very closely set to my mom’s community in Ixmiquilpan. I started this book with some bias but my hñahñu teacher said it was very accurate portrayal.

Ch1) is kind of sad. I feel like the author has like this journalistic quality to his writing that is a lot softer than Marquez journalistic style in “in love & other demons” and “memories of my melancholy whores.” It’s very interesting. The author was writing at the same time Marquez was about to take off in his career. I wonder if he ever read this novel. Theres also hñahñu in this book. Very regional
