The drawings are beautiful in their childlike simplicity. The topics of family, mental illness, mysogyny leading to overload of the wife/mother are brought forth here. I found myself feeling sorry for Maki because it seems both from the diary and the informative biography (end of book) of Maki and her well known husband, she was overwhelmed and kept from most activities that would free her and give her joy in life.
