I love the parts that are so childlike but written so beautifully, like when Claudia talks about how she doesn’t sleep at the edge of the bed because there might be something under there that will reach up and get her. Or the part where Frida decides that they’re going to get candy instead of ice cream, which perfectly depicts an older sister/ younger sister relationship.

I also love the description of Claudia taking apart white baby dolls and hating Shirley temple. She wanted to know what they had that was so lovable that she did not have, so naturally, she opened it up and looked inside. Love this as an explanation to why girls destroy dolls.
