this association of wolves with the devil because of their attacks on sheep, being a symbol for jesus (agnus dei), is fascinating. i do wonder though if a greater analysis could be done into the anglo-saxon influence of the norse jotun surtur, with whom their viking ancestors would have been familiar with. does surtur being associated with fire make this comparison stronger ?
