Jayson’s Reviews > Harley Quinn, Vol. 1: Die Laughing > Status Update

Jayson
Jayson is starting

Notes:
(1) I've got to get going on reading my DC Rebirth trades. The New 52 took me seven years to finish!
- The reason I've decided to read this series now is because I've run out of shelf space and nearly all my books are boxed up and in need of sorting.
- This, on the other hand, is one I don't own physically, so I'd have to read it digitally anyway. May as well be now.

Jayson’s Previous Updates

Jayson
Jayson is on page 158 of 166

Notes:
(1) We end with a three-issue arc about Harley going undercover in the New York punk rock scene.
- Like the previous story, this seems wholly superficial: an excuse to dress Harley in different cultural/subcultural/zany garb, like she's a line of Barbies.
- The only real takeaway is the promise of future under-the-table undercover operations with the chief of police.

Jayson is on page 92 of 166

Notes:
(1) Sandwiched between the two arcs is a standalone story about Harley Quinn and Bolly Quinn taking down a call center scam ring in India.
- It's titled "108 Million Ways to Die!" which is purportedly the population of Mumbai. I don't know where the writers pulled that number from, but it's patently ridiculous.
- Nothing about this story works. It's all too try-hard.

Jayson is on page 70 of 166

Notes:
(1) Poison Ivy's still wearing her New 52 outfit.
- I guess it doesn't matter, this isn't beholden to main universe continuity.
(2) This is a lot more sexual than I remember the series being.
- Not just Harley and Ivy's constant flirting, there's a chronic onanism gag involving Red Tool.
(3) Years before COVID, yet this predicted the quarantine toilet paper shortage!

Jayson is on page 27 of 166

Notes:
(1) The first issue is basically made up of three parts, a spa day with Poison Ivy (which strongly hints at a casual lesbian relationship), an origin story retelling and exhaustive roll-call of series regulars, and the first part of a zombie story arc.
- The middle section is a really tedious info dump, and it's only the zombie mayhem at the end that saves the issue.
